SHOOTING INFORMATION:
Most of the
standard big game rifles work well with a preference for the magnums; from
the .270, .30-06, 7mm, .300 to the .338. We recommend a partitioned style
bullet for better penetration. A scope is necessary; while most shots are
under 200 yards, there are times when a 300 yard shot is necessary. We try
not to shoot over 300 yards. This is when a magnum helps. Most hunters sight
in their rifles 1.5-3 inches high at 100 yards. We cannot stress how important
it is to have your rifle accurately sighted in, and do a lot of practicing
before you come.
EQUIPMENT
This is a fully guided
hunt where all you need to bring is personal gear, clothing, and personal
items. We must pack all equipment from the trail head to camp. For this
reason, we must limit each hunter to two duffle bags not to exceed 35 lbs
each. Following is a check list to help your planning.
GEAR
- 2 canvas or nylon duffle bags (not to exceed 35 lbs each)
- Rifle, sling and ammo (recommend 2 boxes )
- Sleeping bag and pillow (an empty pillow case using a jacket as a
pillow works well)
- Binoculars
- Hunting knife and compass
- Orange vest (400 sq. inches minimum)
- Lighter or waterproof matches
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- Emergency space blanket
- Water bottle
- Camera and film

CLOTHING:
Weather can vary from sunny and warm to zero or below. It is better to wear layers than one single heavy item so pack
accordingly.
- Heavy and light weight jacket
- Wool pants and wool shirts are great!
- Long underwear
- Face mask or scarf
- 2 pair gloves -one pair insulated and waterproof
- 2 pair boots - one hiking / one waterproof pack type
- Hooded sweater/sweat shirt
- Wool and "poly" socks
- Pants (jeans, wool, camo, microtech)
- Shirts (Cabela's microtech shirts are great)
- Caps - one warm and one light
PERSONAL ITEMS:
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Towel, washcloth and soap
- Compact mirror
- Shaving gear
- Chap stick
- Sun glasses
- Personal medications
When packing, it is better to have something along and not need it,
than to not have it and need it. Use common sense and try to stay under
70 lbs. total (excluding your rifle).
