The Chinese Wall trip is an
8 day roving camp adventure travel trip which features a horseback ride to the spectacular 13 mile long
Chinese Wall along the continental divide. This wilderness travel trip has several layover days
which provides a break in horseback riding and allows for some spectacular fly fishing in the
streams and high country lakes. This is also a photographer and hiker paradise!Day
1 - Pack and Ride
We will pack up at the Benchmark trail head (west of Augusta) and mount up
for the horseback trail ride to our first camp site at Indian Point. We will stop for lunch at
the "pack bridge" and arrive at camp late afternoon. You can relax as
camp is set up and dinner is prepared. You will enjoy eating by our open
campfire and gazing at more stars than you ever dreamed exist.
Day 2 -
Explore
This is a layover day at Indian Point with the opportunity to fly fish, explore,
hike, horseback trail ride or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is a good
opportunity to use your camera as the scenery is breathtaking!
Day 3 -
Saddle Up and Ride
We horseback ride to our next camp at Moose Creek. You will see spectacular scenery as
we ride along the "Wall". You should see a mountain goat or two and
maybe some elk, deer and maybe even a bear. Keep your camera ready!
Day 4 -
Explore
This is another layover day. Explore the wonders of the Chinese Wall up
close and personal with a hike up the "Wall". Bring your camera as you
will be on top of the world. You will see many varieties of wildflowers -
we counted 72 varieties one year.
Day 5 - Away We Go Again
You are a pro in the saddle now. Its' nice to take a horseback trail ride down to our next camp on
the banks of the north fork of the Sun River. The Sun River offers excellent fly
fishing for both Cutthroat and Rainbow trout.
Day 6 - Relax
You can relax and sun yourself on the banks of the Sun River on this layover
day. For the fly fisherman, this is a great opportunity at fighting both Cutthroat
and Rainbow. To see more scenery; horseback riding and hiking are also options. Or maybe
just relaxing to the sound of the mountain stream is just what the soul needs.
Day
7 - Pretty Ride
It is a pretty ride as we proceed to our final camp at Pretty Prairie, a big
meadow along the south fork of the Sun River. An evening of relaxation or
fishing along the banks of the river is great for reflecting on all the beauty
and adventure you have seen.
Day 8 - Home Again
After a hearty breakfast and a leisurely morning, we will pack up and take
the final horseback trail ride
the final six miles back to the Benchmark trail head. This completes the
wilderness travel loop of
our high mountain adventure.
This trip gives substance to the quote by Charles M. Russell:
"You can see what man made
from the seat of an automobile
but the best way to see what God
created is from the seat of a horse."
